Akira Toriyama's Biography
Akira Toriyama, Japanese manga artist/character designer began his career of drawing up over-the-top manga after quitting his previous job as a poster designer after three years, because he stated that he's not much of a "morning person" and often gets reprimanded for dressing casually. He was blown away after seeing the classic 1961 Walt Disney film, One Hundred and One Dalmatians and admired Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy, as he stated that he was drawn deeper into the world of illustration by hoping to draw pictures that good. He also stated that he enjoyed watching Ultraman and the classic Gamera films. At the age of 23 in 1978, Toriyama entered the manga industry by starting off with his first title, Wonder Island. Despite his headstart on doing manga, it sadly came in last place in the readers survey. After the failure of its sequel, Wonder Island 2, Kazuhiko Torishima told him to draw a female protagonist and hesitantly created Tomato the Cutesy Gumshoe, which it was an improvement
